Cllr Louise Calland, Conservative GLA Candidate for Merton & Wandsworth, has welcomed £7.5m in extra support from the Government to Merton Council and Wandsworth Council to provide vital services during COVID-19.
- Merton Council and Wandsworth Council collectively have received £54.9m of extra support from the Government since the pandemic began.
- Councils across England have received £6.4 billion of additional direct support since April.
Welcoming the announcement Cllr Louise Calland said:
“I’m pleased that the Government is supporting local Councils with the resources they need to provide vital services during these tough months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This money will help residents in Merton & Wandsworth get support when and where they need it. And help shield the most vulnerable in our community from the worst effects of the pandemic.”
The money will be used locally to help Councils cover COVID-19 related costs and ensure they have the resources needed to keep providing key services as we battle the pandemic.
